DIOCESE OF VENICE Vol. 81, No. 12
Act of Spiritual Communion
It has long been a Catholic un- derstanding that when circum- stances prevent one from receiving Holy Communion, it is possible to make an Act of Spiritual Com- munion which is a source of grace. Spiritual Communion means unit- ing one's self in prayer with Christ's sacrifice and worshiping Him in His Body and Blood. The most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Commu- nion is when a person cannot attend Mass, as is the case during the on- going coronavirus pandemic. Acts of Spiritual Communion increase our desire to receive sacramental communion and help us avoid the sins that would make us unable to receive Holy Communion worthily. For all who will not be able to re- ceive the Holy Eucharist in person, consider this special prayer, an Act of Spiritual Communion: My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacra- ment. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were al- ready there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

Naples school spotlights teachers who go extra mile
St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic School in Naples has been high- lighting the work of its teachers to share with the community is an online effort called "Teachers in the Spotlight." One recent example showed the dedication and commit- ment of Seton teachers display to stay connected students. A fam- ily in Naples does not have wifi at home, which presents difficulties during distance learning. To help this family, Dolores Martin, a Se- ton second grade teacher, travels to her student's home to drop off packets with assignments and needed materials. She even drove there Sunday, April 19, 2020, to give a weekly spelling assessment in the student's driveway.
VEROT SENIOR BUILDS SIGNS TO ENCOURAGE OTHERS
Christian Kearns, a senior at Bishop Verot Catholic High School, has been using his time away from school in Fort Myers to encourage others. The words Faith, Hope, and Love on the corner of McGregor and Colonial Boulevards were designed, cut, painted, and delivered by Christian. Art projects reflect masters
Art students at two Diocesan Catholic schools were recently tasked with a fun distance learn- ing project: recreate a work of art using props from home. The AP Art History class at Bish- op Verot Catholic High School in Fort Myers and the fifth through eighth graders at St. Ann Catho- lic School in Naples, were into the creative spirit of the projects and the results were impressive.
